US Customs and Border Protection has extended the deadline for Entry Type 13, its electronic informal entry process for international mail, to Jan. 20, 2027, from Oct. 22, 2026. The extension gives importers, brokers and logistics another 90 days to prepare.
The requirement covers postal shipments subject to Section 201, 232 or 301 duties or regulated by a partner government agency. These shipments must use Entry Type 13 in CBP’s Automated Commercial Environment to qualify for informal entry. Otherwise, they must go through formal entry.
CBP said international mail entry procedures will remain unchanged before Jan. 20. Filers can use Entry Type 13 voluntarily before the deadline.
The deadline was originally set for Oct. 22. Until then, qualifying mail shipments can continue using the existing process, under which shipments valued at $2,500 or less are reported on a monthly worksheet with their tariff codes, country of origin and declared value.
CBP said the new requirements will help close gaps exploited by criminals to smuggle contraband through international mail.
CBP has separately proposed requiring Entry Type 13 for all international mail packages except letters and flats under its low-value shipments rule. Comments are due Dec. 7.
