DHL Express has launched Heavy Weight Express in the US, a new air freight service for shipments up to 2,200 pounds per piece and 6,600 pounds total. A manufacturer with a shipment too big for standard express and too urgent for freight now has a middle option.
The service covers more than 220 countries and territories, with most deliveries arriving in one to three business days depending on the route, reports Supply Chain Dive. DHL is targeting technology, automotive, engineering, life sciences, pharmaceutical and energy shippers, the kind of customers managing a production deadline or a fixed product launch date. Dedicated Heavy Weight Priority Desks track each shipment and handle exceptions.
DHL Express first rolled out the service worldwide in May, covering the same 220-plus countries at nearly identical weight limits. The US is one of the last major markets to get it, four months later.
“Heavy Weight Express gives US shippers the speed of express with the capacity of freight, backed by a dedicated team watching every shipment in real time,” said Greg Hewitt, CEO of DHL Express US.
DHL says the service comes with one upfront quote, meant to eliminate the rate volatility and cost uncertainty that comes with traditional freight pricing.
