Moralve, a closet-organization brand, is using Amazon’s Global Warehousing and Distribution (GWD) service to hold inventory in China until it knows where demand is strongest. The setup lets its supplier send one shipment on one purchase order, rather than three to five separate shipments to different markets, co-founder and CEO Mo Kuhail told Supply Chain Dive.
Under the old setup, separate orders could leave Moralve overstocked in some markets and short in others. Now, inventory stays in China until forecasts guide how much to send to each country. “Depending on the demand and the forecast, you can maybe send more to the US, send less to the UK,” Kuhail said.
The US accounts for about 75% of sales for Moralve, which launched in 2021. The brand was a beta tester for GWD’s UK expansion. Amazon currently connects GWD to the US and plans to expand it to the UK, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Canada by year-end.
Amazon says GWD storage costs up to 45% less than its Amazon Warehousing and Distribution service in the US. It also says the service can replenish Fulfillment by Amazon inventory up to five days faster.
The model has limits. Moralve’s stock is held in a bonded warehouse in Shenzhen, and Chinese customs rules prevent it from being moved back into China, per EcomCrew. Storage is capped at six months, with an optional six-month extension. Dangerous goods, including lithium batteries, are excluded.
