Tractor Supply is now selling on Instacart, with same-day delivery from more than 2,400 stores. Orders can arrive in less than an hour, and prices match the shelf with no markup.
For a chain whose customers are mostly rural, that fills a real gap. Rural delivery is the slowest and most expensive last mile. It is also one place Tractor Supply did not already have a fast answer. Instacart gives it one without the chain building or staffing anything new.

What's in the deal:
Delivery covers pet food, livestock feed, tools, apparel, and garden supplies, ordered through the Instacart app or website
It spans more than 2,400 of Tractor Supply’s 2,435 stores across 49 states
Item prices match in-store. Instacart makes its money on delivery and service fees, not a markup
Tractor Supply joins more than 2,200 retail banners already on Instacart’s marketplace
Two networks, one footprint: The Instacart deal does not replace Tractor Supply’s own delivery plans. It sits alongside a network the chain is building itself, and the two handle different jobs.
The owned system, on track for 375 AI-routed hubs by year-end across 1,200-plus stores with a private fleet, moves the heavy, awkward freight carriers won't touch cheaply. This includes feed, fencing and mowers.
Instacart handles the light, fast basket. Think of the bag of dog food someone wants that afternoon. Tractor Supply owns the delivery where its own trucks pay off, and rents it where they don’t.
The tradeoff: Reach through Instacart is not free. Because item prices carry no markup, Tractor Supply gives up the delivery margin on those orders in exchange for exposure to Instacart’s shoppers. Analysts have framed the move as a way to steady soft comparable sales rather than a source of new growth, given weak demand for big-ticket goods.
The old build-versus-rent question isn't really either/or. Tractor Supply is running both networks and letting the order decide which one ships it.
