Lego will invest $400 million to expand its factory in Ciénega de Flores, Nuevo León, and expects to add more than 1,300 jobs. The plant, running since 2008, is Lego’s largest in the world.
The money pays for a new packaging building and a high-capacity automated warehouse, about 62,000 square meters of new space built through 2029. The plant made more than 149 million sets in 2025, per The Rio Times.
Lego buys more than 90% of the plant’s inputs from local suppliers, per Infobae. It expects to grow that supplier base by about 30% as the site expands.
The investment “is the result of competing with several countries, and Mexico was selected,” Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said, per IMER.
Mexico passed China as the largest source of US goods imports in 2023. It shipped $359 billion of goods to the US from January to July, more than twice China’s $156 billion, per Census data. GM is also adding about $1 billion of manufacturing investment in Mexico through 2028.
Lego is also building its first US factory, a $1 billion plant in Chesterfield County, Va., that is due to start production in 2027. The Virginia site includes molding, packing and a high-bay automated warehouse.
